Martine Frank
Franke was born in Antwerp, Belgium in 1938 but spent her childhood in England and the United States. She began work as a photographer in 1963 in China, Japan and India. In 1965, she became a freelancer, working on portraits of artists, writers and, above all, on humanitarian and feminist reportage. She has published numerous books and is president of the Cartier-Bresson Foundation. She is the life-long official photographer of the Théâtre du Soleil from its founding in 1964 until today. In 1983 she joined the Magnum agency.
Richard Kalvar
Nasce a New York nel 1944. Dopo gli studi alla Cornell University, lavora come assistente del fotografo francese di moda Jérôme Ducrot. Nel 1966 un lungo viaggio in Europa, con macchina fotografica a seguito, lo convince a intraprendere questa professione. Nel 1972 partecipa alla fondazione dell’agenzia fotografica Viva a Parigi e nel 1977 diventa membro effettivo dell’agenzia Magnum, di cui sarà anche vice-presidente e presidente.
Kalvar ha lavorato in Francia, Italia, Inghilterra, Giappone e Stati Uniti, unendo alla ricerca fotografica incarichi da giornalista e da fotografo commerciale. Ha partecipato a numerose mostre collettive e nel 2007 la Maison Européenne de la Photographie gli ha dedicato una grande retrospettiva, accompagnata dal suo libro Earthlings.
